An advanced technical solution enabling number-plate recognition

Our client, Sables & Graviers La Poissine SA, is a company that was founded in 1978. Located in the industrial zone of La Poissine in Grandson, it specialises in the extraction of aggregates from Lake Neuchâtel, and primarily supplies raw materials such as sand, gravel, or stones for the production of concrete and catering to both stationary and mobile concrete batch plants or construction companies.

Sables & Graviers La Poissine SA also offers a range of lake construction services, including the construction of dikes, rockfill structures, ports, as well as dredging and pile-driving operations.

An effective solution for identified challenges

One of the key challenges the company identified was the tracking of trucks delivering or collecting different materials at the gravel pit. Specifically, the company faced certain issues, namely:

  • Truck drivers frequently failing to accurately declare the nature of the materials being transported.

  • Some customers disputing invoices, claiming they had never loaded any goods at the site.Certains clients contestaient les factures, prétendant ne jamais avoir chargé de marchandises sur le site.

Having analysed the situation, our teams determined that a technological solution involving automatic license-plate recognition, coupled with a system for verifying the goods being transported, would be an effective solution.

A doubly innovative system

To this end, and in collaboration with our client, we installed a surveillance system comprising:

1.    License-plate recognition

The cameras automatically read the trucks’ license plates upon their arrival at the gravel pit. The information is then transmitted to a software that archives it, thus enabling the seamless tracking of all incoming and outgoing vehicles.

2. Content verification

When the truck stops on the scale, our client can view live images of the truck bed, enabling them to verify its contents and ensure that the load matches the declared materials.

A system offering multiple advantages

  • Traceability and transparency: The cameras capture the passage of every truck, enabling a search by license-plate number. The system offers proof of the delivery of goods thanks to video recordings, thus guaranteeing transaction transparency and accuracy.

  • Tonnage verification: The system, by integrating visual data to scale readings, enables accurate tonnage calculations and streamlines the sorting of materials.

  • Secure data storage: All of the data, including the videos and number-plate recognition data, are stored on a dedicated video-surveillance server. In the event of a dispute or the need for verification, the client can access the information at any time.

Advantages our client enjoys

  • Improved flow management: Thanks to the automatic license-plate recognition, the tracking of trucks is streamlined and automated, reducing human error.

  • Reliable invoicing: Our client has readily-available video proof and precise data regarding deliveries, making invoice-related disputes rarer.

  • Enhanced security: The system ensures the constant surveillance of trucks and the transported materials, thus enhancing on-site security.

An additional guarantee of quality

The security system installed for Sables & Graviers La Poissine SA offers the operator a more streamlined, secure, and expedited visual overview of the license plates and goods than it previously had.

This project highlights the value of technological security solutions in optimising materials-management processes, thereby fostering trust among all stakeholders within the industry.
